Believers and Doubters
Why you need more than cheerleaders in your corner.
I was hardly a few months old, and my story was already being written.
By the medical experts, at least.
To learn more about my prognosis, I was sent to a well-known hospital for medical evaluation. It included everything from hearing and visual screenings to testing my developmental benchmarks.
After two days of evaluations, the verdict was in.
Despite little being known about my type of dwarfism or having cases to compare me to, doctors predicted that I would never walk, talk, or live a normal life.
Next, they suggested my mom put me in an institution.
Thankfully, my mom had the audacity to brush off their comments.
I am so thankful she did.
That decision led me to overcoming 20+ surgeries to become a husband, father, tech professional in an affluent city, and aspiring author.
My mom was the believer.
The doctors, while well-intended, were the doubters.
It’s easy to embrace those who believe in you. But, we must embrace the doubters, too.
Believers will cheer you on.
Doubters will challenge you towards progress.
I needed both (and God, of course) to get where I am today and I’ll continue to need them to go where I want to go.
So do you.
Regards,
Kris
P.S. If you know of someone who needs this today, forward it on to them.
