The Key to Getting Started

Six weeks ago today, I underwent hip replacement.

The recovery process has been a great reminder for me. Sometimes, you just have to do what you can and start where you are.

Let me explain …

Moments after waking up from surgery, the surgeon stressed that I needed to stay off my newly replaced hip.

For six-weeks. 😂

This wasn’t something I expected. A quick Google search will show you the amazing advancements in joint replacements.

Many patients go home same day.

What I’ve learned since then is that the complex nature of my anatomy, and virtually having no hips, prompted doctors to take a delicate approach to my recovery.

As someone who goes all-in, this has been frustrating.

I was ready to start intense rehab.
I was ready to walk without pain.
I was ready to be on the move.

Instead I was limited to a few simple exercises and walking with a walker.

Felt so limiting, restrictive.

I hate feeling restricted.

But later it hit me.

I can still build new habits.
I can still make progress.
I can still get stronger.

So no matter where you find yourself right now.

No matter how long the road feels.

Start where you are.

Do what you can.
